How to Get to Dunmore East
Dunmore East is at the end of the R684, the road that turns off the N25 south of Waterford City and runs out to the harbour mouth. Whichever direction you're coming from, you'll meet the same road in the end.
From Waterford City
Head south on the R684 — the road is well signposted from the city. Allow 20-25 minutes for the 12 km drive. There's no motorway involved; the route is single-carriageway country road most of the way, passing through Woodstown.
From Tramore
Tramore is 18 km west along the coast. The most scenic route is the coast road through Newtown and Woodstown — roughly 30 minutes. The inland route via Waterford City is faster (~25 minutes) but misses the headlands.
From Wexford and the east
From Wexford, the route is via New Ross and Waterford City — about 1 hour 15 minutes for the 80 km. The Passage East to Ballyhack car ferry across Waterford Harbour cuts a sizeable chunk off the drive if you're coming from the Hook Peninsula side; the ferry runs roughly every 20 minutes most of the day.
From Cork and the south-west
From Cork City the run is about 1 hour 50 minutes via the N25 east, around 130 km. The road skirts Youghal and then climbs north of Dungarvan before joining the R684. Easy drive, low traffic outside July and August.
By bus
Bus Éireann route 360 connects Waterford City to Dunmore East. Check current timetables — service is daily but not frequent. Driving gives you flexibility for the cliff walk and a relaxed meal afterwards.
Where to eat once you arrive
Whichever direction you come from, you'll arrive hungry. The Spinnaker Bar is on the road into the village — new owner Peter, fresh local food, ring ahead and there's a table.
